1,000 Pari Żraben maqbuda mid-Dipartiment tad-Dwana sabiex jinagħtaw bħala donazzjoni lis-Servizzi ta’ Detenzjoni, NGOs u entitajiet oħra

1,000 par żarbun li ġew maqbuda mid-Dipartiment tad-Dwana se jinagħtaw bħala donazzjoni lis-Servizzi ta’ Detenzjoni u entitajiet u NGOs oħra li jaħdmu mal-immigranti, ħabbar il-Ministru għall-Finanzi, Edward Scicluna.
Il-Ministru Scicluna kien qed jitkellem waqt konferenza stampa fid-Dwana nhar it-Tlieta 4 ta’ Marzu 2014, fejn huwa ħabbar id-donazzjoni filwaqt li tkellem ukoll dwar l-importanza tax-xogħol li jsir fid-Dipartiment tad-Dwana.

Waqt li kien qed jitkellem, flimkien mad-Direttur Ġenerali tad-Dwana s-Sur Joseph P. Brincat, il-Prof. Scicluna spjega kif d-Dipartiment tad-Dwana jaqbad tipi ta’ oġġetti differenti fil-kors tal-imblukkar tad-dħul ta’ oġġetti llegali.

Huwa qal li jiddependi minn l-oġġetti maqbuda jkunux ġenwini jew foloz jekk jiġux distrutti jew irkantati. Fil-każ li jiġu rkantati, l-oġġetti maqbuda jipprovdu sors ta’ dħul lill-Gvern.

Hu spjega wkoll li saret talba sabiex titneħħa l-marka oriġinali tal-prodotti foloz maqbuda, sabiex dawn ikunu jistgħu jingħataw għall-karità aktar milli jinqerdu, saret minn NGO u qed tiġi studjata b’mod serju.
Il-Ministru Scicluna qal “huwa importanti li nuru li d-Dipartiment tad-Dwana qed jaħdem bis-sħiħ sabiex jinqabdu l-oġġetti llegali.” Huwa żied jgħid li filwaqt li donazzjonijiet simili saru fil-passat, hija l-ewwel darba li qed isseħħ donazzjoni daqshekk kbira.

1,000 Pairs of Footwear seized by Customs Department to be donated to Detention Services and other NGOs and entities

1,000 pair of footwear seized by the Customs Department will be donated to the Detention Services directly and through other entities and NGOs that work with migrants, Finance Minister Prof. Edward Scicluna announced.
Prof. Scicluna was speaking during a press conference held at Customs House on Tuesday 4th March 2014, where he announced the donation while also speaking about the importance of the work carried out by the Customs Department.

Speaking alongside the Director General of Customs Joseph P. Brincat, Prof. Scicluna explained that the Customs Department seizes many types of goods in the course of blocking entry to illegal items.

He noted that depending whether the seized goods are genuine or counterfeit, they are destroyed or auctioned. In the latter case, the seized items would be providing a source of income to government.
He also explained that a request for the de-branding of seized counterfeit goods, to render them amenable to be given for charity rather than destroyed, has been made by an NGO and is being seriously studied.

Prof. Scicluna said “it is important to demonstrate that the Customs Department is working hard to seize illegal goods.” He added said that while similar donations were done in the past, it is the first time that such a large donation is taking place.
