During a press conference held today at the Malta Racing Club premises at the Marsa Horse Racing Track, Minister for Finance, Edward Scicluna paid tribute to Mr Bugeja, in the presence of his widow Polly. He said that it was fitting to commemorate Mr Bugeja’s career through an equestrian festival, as he was the voice of the sport for over 37 years, thanks to his well-researched and passionate commentaries of horse races.

Malta Racing Club Chairman, Mr Edwin Borg also paid tribute to Mr Bugeja, who at the time of this demise two years ago, was serving as the club’s general secretary. He recalled his expertise of the local horse raising scene, as well as the numerous contacts overseas. Mr Borg also signalled the club’s intention to turn this festival into an annual event.

The Twanny Bugeja Equestrian Festival will be held on Monday 26th December at the Marsa Horse Racing Track. The racing programme will include pony, flat and trot racing. The festival is supported by the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund.
