Minister for Finance, Prof. Edward Scicluna discussed the Pre-Budget Document 2017 with the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD), prior to the official launching of the document.

In her opening remarks, Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties Helena Dalli stated that the pre budget meetings serve as an annual opportunity for social partners to put forward their comments before the budget is actually presented.
Dr Dalli urged social partners to contribute and continue strengthening the social dialogue process.
Minister Scicluna expounded on the results achieved by the government and gave a brief explanation of the thrust for the budget for 2017 which will be presented in the following months.
He also explained that the document’s title, “Prosperity with Social Justice” portrayed the government’s intention of addressing issues related to families with low incomes, given that the economy was firmly grounded on solid foundations, with statistics showing record employment, controlled public debt and sustained economic growth.
During the meeting, the first part of which was open for the media, social partners gave their views on the current performance of the economy and expressed their views on the issues to be tackled by the budget.
