Laqgħa ta’ Diskussjoni – EJJA U STAQSI – Il-Ħamis, 24 ta’ Jannar – Aida Hall, Żurrieq

Nhar il-Ħamis 24 ta’ Jannar l-Ewroparlamentari Laburista l-Professur Edward Scicluna żamm l-appuntament tiegħu maċ-ċittadini b’laqgħa oħra pubblika ‘Ejja u Staqsi’ fiż-Żurrieq. Il-Professur Scicluna qal li l-proposta tal-Partit Laburista dwar Child Care b’xejn tmur id f’id mal-istudju li għamel hu stess dwar l-estensjoni tal-leave tal-maternita’ u dan biex ħafna iktar nisa jidħlu fid-dinja tax-xogħol. Huwa spjega li f’Malta il-parteċipazzjoni ta’ nies fix-xogħol hija baxxa ħafna u dan għandu effett dirett fuq is-sostenibbiltà tal-pensjonijiet. Kif jagħmel dejjem f’dawn il-laqgħat il-Prof Scicluna wieġeb mistoqsijiet li sarulu mill-membri tal-udjenza preżenti u dawn kienu fost oħrajn dwar is-sitwazzjoni prekarja tal-EneMalta, il-kwistjoni tal-ħolqien tal-20,000 impieg li l-gvern qed jgħid li ħoloq, u n-nuqqas ta’ kapaċita’ tal-gvern li juża l-fondi strutturali tal-Unjoni Ewropea, fost oħrajn.

On Thursday 24th January Labour MEP Professor Edward Scicluna kept in touch with the public with another meeting ‘Ejja u Staqsi’ at Żurrieq. Prof Scicluna said the Labour Party proposal for free child care goes hand in hand with his study on the extension of maternity leave. He said that these measures will result in the increase of female participation and explained that Malta’s overall participation is one of the lowest and it negatively affects the sustainability of pensions. As is customary during these public meetings Prof Scicluna answered a number of questions asked by those present. These were about the dire situation of EneMalta, the myth of the 20,000 jobs created by this government and the government’s lack of good management of EU structural funds amongst other issues.
